The concept of ElectroMagnetic Stimulation (EMS) was first used by d'Arsonval in 1896. Since then, it has evolved to be widely used in diagnostics, research, and rehabilitation. It has become an established tool to treat conditions such as depression (repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation [rTMS]), Parkinson's disease (deep rTMS), and incontinence.
Strengthening pelvic floor muscles using EMS Kegels is a cutting-edge advancement in pelvic health technology. Instead of doing kegel exercises on your own, a single 30-minute EMS Kegel session forces 11,000 supramaximal muscle contractions in your pelvic floor. This procedure accelerates the strengthening of your pelvic floor muscles so that you’ll be free from incontinence and/or other pelvic floor issues in as soon as 2 treatments. EMS Kegels provides a quick, easy, and effective solution for individuals seeking to fix their pelvic floor dysfunctions without any effort. This treatment is completely non-invasive, and is performed while you are fully clothed.
EMS Kegels is designed for people of all genders with health issues related to weak pelvic floor muscles. These include:
If you are unsure whether EMS Kegels is for you, please book a free consultation with us.
EMS Kegels uses high-intensity focused electromagnetic stimulation to induce supramaximal muscle contractions at a level that is impossible to achieve through voluntary kegel exercises. This non-invasive technology penetrates more than 7cm deep, triggering muscle contractions in all pelvic floor muscles, not just the ones that can be exercised with voluntary kegel contractions. Strong pelvic floor muscles hold the bladder and vital organs in place so that you can reclaim normal function in this area. Increases in muscle thickness have been validated with MRI scans (see Research Section).
Consultation and Baseline Measurements:
Our experienced technician will answer your questions and determine whether EMS Kegels is suitable for you. They will take your oxygen saturation, vitals, and assess your baseline level of dysfunction.
Take a Seat on the EMS Kegels Machine:
The machine administers focused electromagnetic stimulation to all your pelvic floor muscles. The level of intensity will begin at 50%, and gradually increase according to your maximum tolerance for 30 minutes.
No Downtime:
After the treatment, you can resume normal activities immediately.
During an EMS Kegels procedure, you will experience a series of 11,000 involuntary muscle contractions followed by releases in your pelvic floor. At first, it will feel like an uncomfortable yet tolerable pulsing/buzzing sensation as your pelvic floor muscles fully contract. Our clients usually acclimate to the sensations in about 10 minutes, and the procedure becomes relaxing. It is generally not a painful experience. Many clients use this time to relax, read, use their phone, or watch something.
After the session, some clients might experience mild muscle soreness, similar to what you might feel after an intense workout. Overall, this procedure is designed to be non-invasive and tolerable, without the need for physical exertion, allowing individuals to return to their daily activities immediately after the treatment.
The first session, including consultation, is approximately 1 hour. Subsequent sessions are 30 minutes long. The treatment frequency is 2 sessions per week for 3 weeks, for a total of 6 treatments. Maintenance sessions can be done every month to every 4 months but are typically not needed. Many of our clients notice improvements after a single session, with continued improvements over the following weeks. For best results, consider working with a healthcare professional who can help you adhere to a healthy lifestyle plan.
EMS Kegels is superior to other treatments for incontinence due to its innovative, non-invasive nature. Instead of risking surgery and/or becoming dependent on medication, this procedure re-educates and strengthens your pelvic floor muscles. This treatment provides a comfortable experience, allowing you to reclaim control over pelvic health without the downtime or harmful side effects often associated with surgical procedures or medication regimens.
Compared to electrical stimulation where electrodes are placed on the skin, research has found that EMS Kegels is more effective and safe. There is a significantly smaller chance of feeling itches and pain since there is no heat being generated under the skin. There is also no risk of burns.
There's minimal preparation required for an EMS Kegels session.
Pre-Session Nourishment:
Make sure to eat a meal earlier in the day and maintain proper hydration to minimize cramping.
Attire:
Wear comfortable clothing and do not wear jewellery or other metal items during the treatment.
Entertainment:
Bring something to pass the time during the session like a phone, book, or tablet.
You are free to resume normal activities after your treatments. Just like after an intense workout, your muscles might feel a little sore, and it’s recommended to consume some protein and water.
Results typically last 9-12 months depending on lifestyle factors. To maintain optimal pelvic muscle tone, follow-up maintenance treatments are suggested every 6-12 months. For optimal and long-lasting results, consider working with a healthcare professional who can help you adhere to a healthy lifestyle plan.
EMS Kegels is generally safe for most individuals, but there are certain contraindications:
The most common adverse effect from EMS Kegels is temporary muscle soreness and/or fatigue post-treatment, akin to that following an intense workout.
During or immediately following a session, some clients may experience nausea and/or dizziness. In almost all cases, this is a mild and short-lived experience that self-resolves within a few hours. To minimize this risk, you should ensure that you are well-hydrated before and after treatments. If symptoms persist or worsen, consult with your healthcare provider for further guidance.
Rarely, clients may experience redness, swelling, or bruising in the treated areas, which should subside within a few days.
At Chill N Sculpt, we strive to minimize this risk for our clients. We encourage you to check out the research section of our website so that you can make an informed decision about proceeding with this treatment. If you have any questions, we are happy to discuss your concerns during a free consultation.
While EMS Kegels is highly effective in addressing incontinence and sexual function due to weak pelvic floor muscles, it may not improve bladder or uterine prolapse.
